Covert Park at Mount Bonnell

Covert Park at Mount Bonnell gives visitors a one-of-a-kind experience in Greater Austin, Texas. The park is the perfect location for spending time with family and friends during the day or enjoying an evening picnic.

Located on top of a hill overlooking Lake Austin, Covert Park provides breathtaking views of downtown Austin and surrounding hillsides. There are also benches to relax on while taking in the scenery.

There are several trails at Covert Park that lead to different areas of the lake. Visitors can choose which trail they would like to walk on depending upon how long they plan on staying in the park. The "Hill Trail" leads visitors down Mount Bonnell and gives them access to view downtown Austin, Lake Austin, and surrounding hillsides.

The "Lake Trail" leads visitors along the shore of Lake Austin where they can find a bridge that crosses over to Hippie Hollow, an area popular for nude sunbathing. The trails are open year-round and free to explore during park hours which are from sunrise until one hour after sunset.

Covert Park is located on Mount Bonnell Road, which is off of Lake Austin Boulevard. Visitors can access the park by car or they have the option of biking to Mount Bonnell if they do not mind a moderate uphill ride on their way back.

You can get to Covert Park, also known as "Mount Bonnell," by driving up to Lake Austin Boulevard from downtown. When you reach the intersection of Mount Bonnell Road and Lakeshore Drive, turn right onto Mount Bonnell Road and continue until the road ends at a parking lot that leads into Armstrong's Hillside Theatre. The park is on the right.

You can also take public transportation to reach Covert Park or any other location in Austin's city center (downtown). The bus stop closest to Mount Bonnell is located at South Lamar and Barton Springs Road. Walk south down Lamar Boulevard until you get to Bull Creek Drive; then turn left onto Bull Creek and walk until you get to Mount Bonnell Road.

Cross Bull Creek Drive with the light and continue walking on Mount Bonnell Road for about one-quarter mile (one kilometer) until you reach a wide dirt trail that leads into Armstrong's Hillside Theatre. The trail is located at 18500 TX-130 Service Rd, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
